University of Southampton



The University of Southampton is situated in the city of Southampton, on the south coast of England. It is a founding member of the Russell Group and Worldwide Universities Network, and currently has around 20,000 students enrolled, of which 2,000 are international from more than 100 different countries. It is ranked in the top 1% of global universities and currently ranked 81st in the world.
Southampton is known for being research-intensive and has the only Engineering faculty in the UK to receive the highest rating (5*) across all disciplines in the latest Research Excellence Framework. Southampton is cited as the UK’s leading university for Engineering.

Bangalore-based Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is the only institution that figures somewhere between 300 and 400 as ranked by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) for 2013.American universities have captured 17 positions of the top 20 slots, with two going to the British universities and one being occupied by the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology at Zurich. Our list of the top 10 universities in India is concluded by the University of Calcutta, which is placed52nd in the BRICS rankingand 149th in Asia. Like the University of Delhi, the University of Calcutta is a multidisciplinary public university. It’s located in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), a city known as the commercial center of East India, with a GDP among the largest in southern Asia. Founded in 1857, the University of Calcutta now enrolls over 23,000 students across a number of campuses.
Despite not featuring in the subject rankings, the University of Calcutta claims the biggest research center of all Indian universities, which is dedicated to nanoscience and nanotechnology.
